Lashana's Story

Loss Mama

My name is Lashana Standard. I lost my baby girl, Shaniya, on February 24, 2018 due to an unknown placenta abruption. I started having contraction on February 24th at 8am. I was excited because I was getting ready to meet my baby girl (She has two brothers before her). My contractions started becoming painful and rapid. I drove myself to the hospital all while praying while in the car.

When I got to the hospital I was admitted to labor and delivery. The contractions started getting painful again. The nurse put the Doppler on me and they kept detecting my heartbeat instead of my babys. The doctor came in and did an ultrasound and the look on his face began to worry me. He stated he would be back with another doctor. As the nurse was still trying to find a heartbeat with the Doppler, I got on the phone calling/texting my family including my dad. My baby was gone.

Then Both doctors came in did another ultrasound, that’s when they broke the news, “I’m sorry there’s no heartbeat. When was the last time you felt your baby move?”I said “before I went to bed that night.” I was just in shock and disbelief. The daughter I wanted is gone. I had to still go through the labor and delivery process. My daughter was born beautiful.

Leaving the hospital without Shaniya was devastating. I leaned on God, counseling and support groups to help me get through the healing journey. I love her and will always be her mama. She will forever be loved and not forgotten.
